It seems the client, running on AIX 7.1 is not taking jobs.

I get this:

21-Sep-2012 16:58:40 [http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/] Sending scheduler request: Project initialization.

Which BOINC client version do you have used?
Could you please also try a other (older) BOINC client version.

Btw. there is no LHC science app for AIX available. AIX is only supported on SETI and SIMAP. A SETI application is available on my homepage, a SIMAP science app on the SIMAP homepage..

I am in a position where I have a few p710s and 720s available as lab equipment and I have motivation to pin their CPUs for a few months.

So am I understanding that due to projects not supporting AIX, that the boinc_client is basically unusable and I need a special SETI or SIMAP client, and may as well delete this one?

You do not need a special BOINC client, you need to install a additional science application for the project(s).
The BOINC client do the scheduling, down- and upload to the different projects. The science application the computing itself. So you can install several different science applications on one BOINC client.

The latest log you have posted looks OK now. I recommend to wait some time and let the BOINC client running, eventualy SETI has a problem on the server side.

I had same problem with the newest version (58)
I got an error after it did an request (error 400) to the broker.
After installing one version older it started like it intended and happily crunching on my P740 and P750's
