first: thanks for this great software! its exactly what i was looking for! very helpful

A few days ago i remebered seti@home and started rigth away with it.
I bought three IBM-Server with old Intel-Xeon-CPUs. They were very cheap and the bionic-client is running well, but they are eating energy like hell.
So my aim is to build a grid out of Intel-Atom-CPUs.

Fortunately i own a EEE-PC with an Atom-processor so I want to try to set up a diskless-client there first and see how it is performing.
I went already through a few problems:
- enabling PXE on the EEE-PC /solved
- installing Dotsch_UX on the server and getting after the third reinstall that it doesnt matter what password and username i type in during install... its always boinc/boinc /so always solved
- configuring the diskless.conf /solved
- setting up the server and persuading the client to boot via PXE /solved

As finally "Dotsch/UX 1.2" appeared on the client's screen i was like "WTF IT WORKS!"

but five seconds later i got a kernel-panic
loading vmlinuz...
loading initrd.gz...
Loading, please wait
ipconfig: eth0: SIOCGIFINDEX: No such device
ipconfig: no devices to configure
/init: .: line 1: can't open /tmp/net-eth0.conf
[ 7.217790] Kernel panic - not syncing; Attempted to kill init!

That probably means that the network-card doesnt work out-of-the-box.
I found somebody with the same problem here:

Its sad that atfer such an great offer he didnt reply.
or did he?

I would be happy if you could give me an tutorial on how to compile the kernel or what the heck i have to do to make it work :)
You offered the other guy to write him a kernel, that would be nice indeed... but concerning my aims in the future i would be better to learn how to do it myself because i am sure it will happen again with another machine

here is detailed information about the eee-pc:
output of hwinfo:
If you need anything else, let me know.

A brief search for kernel-modules for the "atheros_eth atl1e" brought some results, but i am sure you can use google as well and can find the results you need.

I got into this hardware/linux/seti-business a few days ago so especially about linux i have limited knowledge.
So a step-by-step-tutorial would be nice, something like your other tutorials e.g. ... ation.html I can handle.

thanks in advance for any help
looking forward to infect all my computers with Dotsch/UX :D

PS: some mistakes I found:
"The diskless server offers a DHCP server for the assignment of the IP addresses, network configuration, PXE
boot images. The DHCP server would be configured via /etc/opt/dotsch_ux/diskless.conf
Configuration via /etc/opt/dotsch_ux/diskless.conf"
Is there a reason for mentioning "/etc/opt/dotsch_ux/diskless.conf" twice?

"After the server setup, it‘s possible to add diskless client(s) to the server via the script (/opt/dotsch_ux/bin/ This tool installs the diskless client automatically."
There is an underscore missing between "diskless" and "client"
not "/opt/dotsch_ux/bin/" but /opt/dotsch_ux/bin/"
